Mutual fans of each other, Doris gasped, “It’s you! That was you (on TV)!” when Laurice surprised her at the New Amsterdam Theater on Broadway. Laurice and the entire audience gave a standing ovation for Doris, starring (at 98 years young) in Broadway’s annual Equity Fights AIDS show.
Doris was the inspiration for the song, “Singing in the Rain,” made famous by Gene Kelly in the Hollywood film. Doris worked with such great artists as Fred Astaire, WC Fields, and Fanny Brice on Broadway.
Laurice is the only visionary and pioneering artist chosen by the National Ziegfeld Club in their 75+ year history to carry on the spirit of the Great Ziegfeld family, who made history when they produced the Ziegfeld Follies and Showboat, and again, when Mrs. Ziegfeld, AKA Billie Burke, starred as Glinda, the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz.
Laurice’s pioneering performing artistry and philanthropic work have been acknowledged by the families of Broadway and Hollywood royalty from Flo Ziegfeld, Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin and Harry Houdini, to Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz (“I Love Lucy”), Pete Seeger, and LaToya Jackson.
